Most patients receive their medicines free of charge, or buy a pre-payment certificate. However all medicines have a cost to the NHS, and it is estimated that £300 million is spent each year in the UK on wasted or part-used medicines. That’s a lot of money that can’t then be spent on staff, appointments, operations and treatments for you and people like you. Please don’t order more medicines than you need. If you are ordering medicines that you aren’t actually using for fear that you’ll be ‘told off’, please speak to a nurse or doctor so that we can understand the worries you may have about your prescription and help you!
