The number of GP’s per head of population in England has fallen consistently in the last 10 years. In the East Midlands it has fallen by 2.5% in 2 years to some of the lowest staffing levels in the United Kingdom. Numbers are difficult to gauge accurately, since the private company the NHS uses to manage the ‘GP Performers List’ isn’t on top of things. Workload is such that only 1 in 20 newly qualified GP’s can countenance the prospect of working full-time at the coal face whilst staying safe and sane for your benefit. Dr Noel O’Kelly retires from the GP partnership in June 2020, and the practice is actively looking to recruit one or more doctors in his place. Many GP’s younger than Dr O’Kelly plan to reduce their hours or retire in the near future.
The number of doctors training to be specialists in General Practice is increasing – nationally and locally. It is vital that our patients and GP practices work to encourage these dedicated professionals to remains in General Practice and in Lincolnshire.
Dr Dana Diaconescu (F) leaves Spilsby for brief rotations in Palliative Care and Psychiatry posts, before returning to Spilsby in August 2020. Dr Yemisi Ojo (F) will continue working with us into the New Year. We thank them both.
Welcome to the NHS and to GP Specialist Training to Dr Samuel Adedibu (M), joining us for 4 months from December and then to complete his rotation in 2021. Hello to Dr Florentina Dumitru (F), moving to Lincolnshire to complete her GP training from January 2020.
