To help you understand more about the plans, we have put together the following frequently asked questions from previous feedback and queries we have received
It is the responsibility of local healthcare commissioners and the NHS authority to look at how hospital services cope with an expanding population.
The proposed building will be designed to accommodate enough clinical and support staff to cater for the existing population as well as those from the new development. Our staffing structure has outgrown the current building, preventing us from recruiting or training additional staff.
Yes, the proposed site will have a dedicated car park.
The current surgery would close and all the services would move to the new location. There would only be one surgery which will be big enough to cater for the larger population as well as have room for future expansion. A new surgery has been planned for Spilsby for more than 15 years but has sadly not yet come to fruition.
The current surgery was opened in the early 1980s when Spilsby was a lot smaller than it is now. The new building has been designed to offer enough space for our plans. In fact, there will be a substantial increase in size. Furthermore, it will be built in an area where expansion is possible should the need arise.
It is accepted that the proposed site will be located a little further from the town centre. Patients can access it by a lit, purpose-built pathway or via the estate or main road, unlike the current location.
Additional services could be provided within the new building but will be subject to approval by the NHS commissioners and NHS Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group and will require additional space to be provided.
We are in a very fortunate position in Spilsby that our reputation allows us to attract staff, both clinical and non-clinical, but this can be hampered by the lack of room for them, for example in accepting registrars for training.
Healthcare for Spilsby and the surrounding area is one of the priorities within the East Lindsey District Council local plan. As such, the new surgery will be built at the start of the development if approved by the Council and CCG.
Retention of GPs, clinical and administrative staff is not an issue. The GP staffing at Spilsby has been stable for many years, and while we have experienced retirements and necessary change, we are fortunate enough to have recruited young people who can grow with the current population.
We anticipate that there will be a requirement to increase the current workforce, both clinical and non-clinical. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to give more specific information at this time.
No, appointment availability will not be disadvantaged by this move.
Bus routes are part of the overall planning process and not in the remit of the surgery development.
The retinopathy unit has the ability to operate inside a building as well as a van. We anticipate that future clinics will be run from inside the new surgery and not remotely from the car park.
Patients will still have the option to consult whichever clinician they choose. Please remember that it may take longer to get an appointment for some clinical staff due to their working patterns.
No. We will continue to operate our diabetic appointments as we do now, this allows the patient to schedule an appointment that suits them rather than the surgery deciding when the appointment will be.
106 funding issues are not the responsibility of the surgery but are obtained through the overall planning process.
All necessary precautions will be undertaken to ensure that privacy is maintained for all.
Speed limits are not within the control of the surgery and should be addressed to LCC Highways Department.
There are currently no plans to merge with other local practices.
Yes. As a dispensing surgery we are only allowed to provide medication to those patients that reside more than 1 mile from the Spilsby chemist. We will continue to provide a prescription service to those non dispensing patients as we do now.
No. Minor Injuries and Accident and Emergency Departments will be the same as they are now; located at Skegness, Louth and Boston.
No. You will still be required to attend Pilgrim Hospital for your X-Ray. However, it is hoped that we will be able to offer some diagnostic services, such as ultrasound, from the new site but this is yet to be confirmed.
The Grace Swan clinic will remain the home by the Community Nursing Team. They will not be relocated to the new surgery site.
Yes. Waiting areas and the Reception area will be separated, affording more privacy.
Work on the type of visiting services is ongoing.
A new, lit, tarmac footpath is being provided to the new surgery
