1.3M NHS staff have been promised an increase in earnings – a minimum of 6.5% over 3 years (expected price rises mean this is a real-terms pay cut) and a maximum 29% over 3 years (perhaps restoring pay to pre-2010 levels). This doesn’t apply to English general practices who have been given just a 1% uplift in General Medical Services funding to pay for all the services we provide – including staff costs. There is no end to austerity in general practice, where 90% of NHS patient care is provided.
