Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

using your NHS account https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/account/ (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
using our GP online system called SystmOnline: https://systmonline.tpp-uk.com/

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • fill out a repeat prescriptions request form and bring the paper form to the surgery, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 6.30pm
  • Phone our repeat prescription requests phone line on 01790 728111 option 1

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from our dispensary (dispensing patients only) 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it or from your nominated pharmacy (this is usually the Coop pharmacy in Spilsby) if you are a non dispensing patient.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at your GP practice
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Questions about your prescription

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription phone our prescriptions phone line after 10am on 01790 728111 option 1

If you have questions about your medicine and you are a non dispensing patient, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answersto your common questions.

What to do with old medicines?

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

Most patients receive their medicines free of charge, or buy a pre-payment certificate. However all medicines have a cost to the NHS, and it is estimated that £300 million is spent each year in the UK on wasted or part-used medicines. That’s a lot of money that can’t then be spent on staff, appointments, operations and treatments for you and people like you. Please don’t order more medicines than you need. If you are ordering medicines that you aren’t actually using for fear that you’ll be ‘told off’, please speak to a nurse or doctor so that we can understand the worries you may have about your prescription and help you!

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Find a pharmacy on the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/pharmacy/find-a-pharmacy

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
